Vietnam to Romania visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a Schengen Type C short-stay visa to visit Romania for tourism. Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025, and Vietnam is on the EU visa-required list, so there is no visa-free, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival channel. ETIAS does NOT apply to Vietnamese citizens. Since Romania fully joined the Schengen area on 1 January 2025, a Vietnamese ordinary passport holder must obtain a uniform Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) before traveling to Romania for tourism. Vietnam is not on the EU's visa-exempt list, so the ETIAS travel authorization (a system reserved for visa-free nationalities, launching late 2026) is irrelevant here. The Type C visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period and is valid throughout all Schengen states. Applications are filed via Romania's official eVisa portal (eviza.mae.ro) and submitted in person for biometrics at the Romanian Embassy in Hanoi, with VFS Global handling many appointments in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The consular fee is EUR 90 for adults, plus VFS service fees and mandatory travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000 coverage. Standard processing is around 15 calendar days but can extend to 45 days in peak season, so apply at least 3 weeks (and up to 6 months) before departure.
