Privacy Policy
Short version: we collect almost nothing. No accounts, no personal data, no advertising trackers. This page explains the small handful of things we do collect and why.
What we collect
canivisit.com uses Plausible Analytics to measure aggregate page traffic. Plausible is privacy-focused — it doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across sites, and doesn't collect personal information. It records:
- The page URL you visited
- The referring URL (where you came from)
- Your browser and operating system (in broad categories)
- Your country (derived from IP, then discarded — your IP is not stored)
- The screen size category (mobile, tablet, desktop)
No personally identifiable information is collected. No cross-site tracking. No advertising profile. No data is sold or shared with third parties.
What we don't collect
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any account information (the site has no accounts)
- Your IP address (Plausible discards it after deriving country)
- Behavioral profiles for advertising
- Anything from form submissions — the visa checker runs entirely client-side and your selections aren't sent to our server
Cookies
We don't set tracking cookies. Plausible doesn't use cookies. The browser may store a small amount of data in localStorage to remember your UI preferences (theme, density) on subsequent visits — that data stays in your browser and is never transmitted anywhere.
Third-party services
The site loads a small number of external resources:
- Plausible Analytics — for traffic measurement (see above)
- Google Fonts — for IBM Plex web fonts; Google may log your IP when fonts are requested. To self-host fonts and avoid this, contact us
- ip.sb (geo IP lookup) — on the homepage only, your browser makes a single request to
api.ip.sb/geoipto pre-fill the passport dropdown with your country. ip.sb sees your IP for that request. We do not store the result; it's used in your browser to populate the form and discarded on page navigation. You can override the pre-filled selection at any time
Each external service has its own privacy policy. We link to embassy and government sites from many pages — those sites have their own policies and tracking practices that we don't control.
Data retention
Aggregate Plausible analytics are retained according to Plausible's data policy. We don't maintain a separate user database because we don't have user accounts.
Your rights
Because we don't collect personal data, there's nothing identifiable to access, correct, or delete. If you have a specific question about data the site might hold related to you (e.g., a support email you sent), use the contact link in the footer and we'll help.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, the effective date at the top changes. We'll keep changes proportionate — if we ever start collecting more, we'll say so clearly here.
