Vietnam to Malawi visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a visa for Malawi. Vietnam is NOT on Malawi's visa-exempt list (the exemption list was tightened on 3 January 2026), so the recommended route is an online eVisa via the official portal evisa.gov.mw before travel. A single-entry visa costs USD 75 and allows a stay of up to 30 days. Visa on arrival is also available to most nationalities, but applying online in advance is strongly encouraged. A Vietnam ordinary passport holder traveling to Malawi for tourism must obtain a visa; there is no visa-free channel. Malawi removed visa requirements for 79 nationalities on 7 February 2024 but tightened that list on 3 January 2026 under the Immigration (Amendment) Regulations 2026, and Vietnam is not among the exempt countries. The standard and recommended option is the Malawi eVisa, applied for online at the official Department of Immigration portal (evisa.gov.mw). According to the official Department of Immigration fee schedule, a single-entry visa is USD 75 and permits a stay of up to 30 days (extendable in-country for a further 90 days). A 6-month multiple-entry visa is USD 150 and a 12-month multiple-entry visa is USD 250. Visa on arrival remains available at designated ports of entry for nationals of eligible (Category Two) countries, also at USD 50-75 for single entry, but the immigration authority strongly encourages travelers to apply online in advance to avoid delays and payment issues at the border. Typical eVisa processing is about 5-10 working days. Travelers should carry a passport valid at least 6 months with a blank page, proof of onward/return travel, accommodation details, and sufficient funds. A yellow fever vaccination certificate may be requested, particularly when arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever-endemic country. Because exemption and category lists can change at short notice, applicants should re-check the official portal shortly before booking and traveling.
