Vietnam to Hungary visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Hungary. Vietnam is not on the EU visa-exempt list, so ETIAS does not apply. Apply in advance through VFS Global in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City; the visa allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen Area. Hungary is a member of the Schengen Area, and Vietnam is a "visa-required" (Annex I) nationality for the EU. As a result, holders of an ordinary Vietnamese passport cannot enter Hungary visa-free for tourism and must obtain a Schengen Uniform (Type C) short-stay visa before travel. The visa is issued for stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period and is valid throughout all 29 Schengen states, not only Hungary. Applications for Vietnamese residents are lodged through the official VFS Global visa application centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with the decision made by the Embassy of Hungary. The standard Schengen visa fee is EUR 90 for adults (EUR 45 for children 6-11, free under 6), plus a VFS service fee of about EUR 5.80. A decision on admissible applications is normally made within 15 calendar days of submission, though it can extend up to 45 days during peak periods or if additional documents are requested. Applicants must show a passport valid at least three months beyond departure with two blank pages, travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the whole Schengen Area, proof of accommodation, return flights, and sufficient funds. ETIAS (the EU travel authorisation launching for visa-exempt nationals in late 2026) does NOT apply to Vietnamese passport holders, who continue to need a full visa. The EES (Entry/Exit System) biometric border checks do apply at entry.
