Vietnam to Eritrea visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a visa for Eritrea, obtained in advance from an Eritrean diplomatic mission. There is no eVisa, visa-on-arrival, or visa-free option for Vietnam. As of mid-2026, holders of an ordinary Vietnamese passport must obtain an Eritrean entry visa BEFORE travel from an Eritrean embassy or consulate. Eritrea has one of the world's most restrictive visa policies: only Kenya and Uganda enjoy visa-free access, and visa-on-arrival is limited to Ethiopia and Sudan (and pre-arranged sponsor confirmations). Vietnam is not on any exemption or VOA list, and Eritrea operates no general electronic visa system, so a Vietnamese tourist must apply in person or by mail at an Eritrean mission. There is no resident Eritrean embassy in Vietnam, so applicants typically apply through the nearest accredited Eritrean mission (commonly handled via the Embassy of Eritrea in Washington, D.C. through its online CAPS / B62.3 application process, or a regional Eritrean embassy serving the area). The tourist visa is generally valid for three months from issue (you must arrive within that window) and permits a stay of about one month, extendable at the Immigration office in Asmara. Independent tourism in Eritrea is also tightly controlled: travelers must additionally obtain internal travel permits to move outside Asmara after arrival. Given the conservative requirement to confirm a no-visa channel and the absence of one, the verdict is firmly visa-required.
