Vietnam to Chile visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Chile. They may enter visa-free for up to 90 days under the Vietnam-Chile mutual visa-waiver agreement that entered into force on 11 August 2017. Holders of an ordinary Vietnamese passport can travel to Chile for tourism or short visits without obtaining a visa in advance. Under a bilateral visa-exemption agreement between Vietnam and Chile (in force since 11 August 2017), Vietnamese citizens are granted "Permanencia Transitoria" (transitory permanence) as tourists for a maximum stay of 90 days per entry, confirmed by the Chilean immigration service (SERMIG), the Visa Policy of Chile, and the visa requirements for Vietnamese citizens. Chile is in South America and is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. There is no visa fee and no reciprocity (entry) fee for Vietnamese nationals; the previous reciprocity fee Chile once charged certain nationalities (e.g. the US) does not apply here and has largely been phased out. On arrival, travelers must present a passport valid for the duration of stay (carriers and officers commonly expect at least 6 months' validity), and receive a paper Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turismo / PDI card) which must be retained and surrendered on departure. Immigration may request proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds. The 90-day stay can be extended once for a further 90 days through SERMIG, or by a short border exit/re-entry in practice. The verdict is therefore visa-free for short tourist stays.
