United States to Papua New Guinea visa requirements

As of 2026, a United States ordinary passport holder cannot enter Papua New Guinea visa-free and is not eligible for visa on arrival. The US must obtain a visa in advance, and the practical route for tourism is the electronic Easy Visitor Permit (EVP) issued by the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) through the official portal at evisa.ica.gov.pg. The EVP costs USD 50, is single entry, and permits a tourist stay of up to 60 days from arrival. The US State Department explicitly states that there is no visa-on-arrival option for US citizens and that a physical visa or eVisa must be secured before arrival. Processing is typically fast (often 1-2 business days, sometimes immediate for fully completed applications), but travelers should apply at least a few business days ahead. A passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of travel, an onward/return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds are required. Papua New Guinea is not in the Schengen area, so the 90/180 short-stay rule and ETIAS do not apply.
