United States to Japan visa requirements

No visa needed for stays up to 90 days. Visit Japan Web is optional but recommended for arrival forms. U.S. ordinary passport holders enter Japan visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism, business meetings, conferences, short study, transit, and visits to friends or family, as long as they do not do paid work. The passport must be valid for the duration of the stay (Japan does not enforce a 6-month rule), with blank page space for entry stamps. Visit Japan Web is the recommended way to pre-register immigration and customs declarations digitally; paper customs forms are still accepted on arrival. JESTA, Japan's planned electronic travel authorization, is targeted for fiscal year 2028 — it is not required in 2026.
