United States to Norway visa requirements

No visa needed. U.S. ordinary passport holders can visit Norway visa-free for short Schengen stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period; ETIAS is not required as of 2026-06-20. Norway is a Schengen Area country. United States ordinary passport holders are listed by UDI among nationalities that do not need a visa to visit Norway, and may make short tourism, family, transit, or business-visitor trips for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen area. No visa or pre-travel authorization is required as of 2026-06-20. Schengen document rules require a passport issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 3 months after the planned departure from the Schengen area; for U.S. travelers, the State Department's Norway page also says to have at least 6 months' validity at entry and two blank pages, and notes that the 12-page U.S. emergency passport is not valid for visa-free entry into Norway. Be ready to show sufficient funds, return or onward travel, accommodation or host details, and the purpose of the trip if asked at the border; travel medical insurance is strongly recommended even though no Schengen visa is being applied for. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational across Schengen on 10 April 2026, so first entries are recorded digitally with facial image, fingerprints, passport details, and entry/exit data instead of routine passport stamps. ETIAS is still not operational and no action is required yet; it is expected in the last quarter of 2026, will cost EUR 20 for fee-paying applicants, and will be valid for up to 3 years or until the passport expires.
