🇺🇸UNITED STATES
🇫🇷FRANCE (SCHENGEN)US-FR

Do United States passport holders need a visa to visit France (Schengen)?

Visa-free up to 90 days in any 180. EES live since 10 Apr 2026; ETIAS arrives Q4 2026. U.S. ordinary passport holders enter France (and the wider Schengen Area) visa-free for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026 and now records each entry and exit electronically, replacing manual passport stamps. ETIAS — a small travel authorization fee around €7 — launches in the fourth quarter of 2026 and becomes mandatory in 2027. Long stays beyond 90 days, work, or study require a French national long-stay visa applied for through the French consulate before travel.
