United States to Myanmar visa requirements

US ordinary passport holders need a visa for Myanmar. The simplest option is the official Tourist eVisa, applied for online before travel for about USD 50. Myanmar (Burma) requires US citizens to obtain a visa before arrival. The recommended route for a short tourist visit is the government Tourist eVisa, applied for entirely online at the official portal evisa.moip.gov.mm. The eVisa costs USD 50, is normally processed within about 3 working days, and allows a single entry with a stay of up to 28 days. The eVisa approval letter is valid for 90 days from issue, meaning you must enter Myanmar within that window. You must print the approval letter, as a phone screen is not accepted at immigration. The eVisa is accepted at the international airports in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw, plus several designated land border checkpoints. Apply only through the official portal, as the US State Department warns that non-official lookalike sites may be fraudulent and charge inflated fees. Important: the US State Department maintains a strong advisory urging US citizens to reconsider or avoid travel to Burma due to civil unrest, armed conflict and arbitrary law enforcement; the visa is only the documentary requirement and does not address those safety risks.
