🇺🇸United States🇲🇱MaliUS-ML United States to Mali visa requirements
US ordinary passport holders need a visa for Mali, but as of January 1, 2026 Mali has SUSPENDED visa issuance and entry for US citizens in reciprocity for the US travel ban on Malian nationals. Tourist entry is effectively not available right now. The US also maintains a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory for Mali. A US ordinary passport holder normally requires a consular tourist visa to enter Mali, obtained from the Embassy of the Republic of Mali in Washington, DC (Mali has no eVisa or visa-on-arrival for tourists). However, the situation changed sharply in 2026. After the US Presidential Proclamation of December 16, 2025 placed Mali under a full entry/visa suspension effective January 1, 2026, Mali's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on January 2, 2026 a reciprocal measure applying the same conditions to US nationals "with immediate effect." The US Department of State confirms that "as of January 1, 2026, the government of Mali has suspended visas to U.S. citizens." Narrow exceptions exist (US citizens already holding a valid Mali visa, US permanent residents of Mali, accredited diplomats, and certain athletes or persons whose entry serves Mali's interest), but ordinary tourists cannot currently obtain a visa or enter. Separately, the State Department maintains a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory for Mali due to terrorism, kidnapping, crime, and armed conflict. Travelers should treat Mali as closed to ordinary US tourism until the reciprocal suspension is lifted and must confirm the latest status directly with the Embassy of Mali. Because no usable no-visa channel exists and entry is suspended, the conservative verdict is visa-required.
