Russian Federation to Spain visa requirements

Russian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Spain for tourism. Russia is not visa-exempt, and since 7 November 2025 the EU generally issues only single-entry visas to Russian nationals, with stricter scrutiny. Apply at the Spanish consulate/visa centre in Russia before travel. Spain is a member of the Schengen Area, and Russian citizens are NOT on the EU's visa-exempt list. A Russian ordinary passport holder must obtain a Schengen Uniform (Type C) short-stay visa before traveling to Spain for tourism. The visa permits a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Following the European Commission's decision of 7 November 2025, Russian applicants are now generally issued single-entry visas only (multiple-entry visas are reserved for narrow categories such as transport workers, close relatives of EU-resident Russians, journalists and human rights defenders), and applications undergo enhanced security and migration scrutiny with longer processing. The standard visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6-11; there is no EU-Russia visa-facilitation agreement in force (it was suspended in September 2022), so the reduced EUR 35 fee does not apply. Applications for Spain are accepted only in Russia (currently the Moscow consular jurisdiction/BLS visa centre). Required supporting documents include a passport valid at least 3 months beyond departure with two blank pages, the completed application form, a recent biometric photo, biometrics (fingerprints), round-trip flight reservation, confirmed accommodation, proof of sufficient funds (the Spanish authorities cite roughly EUR 122/day, with a minimum around EUR 1,099 for stays of 9+ days), and Schengen-wide travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 coverage. ETIAS is a separate travel authorisation for visa-EXEMPT nationals and does NOT apply to Russian passport holders, who continue to need a full visa even after ETIAS launches (expected Q4 2026). Travelers should apply 3-6 weeks ahead, and during peak summer demand processing can extend toward 45 days.
