Japan to Pakistan visa requirements

A Japanese ordinary passport holder needs an online e-Visa to visit Pakistan for tourism. Pakistan suspended its free Visa-on-Arrival and Visa Prior to Arrival schemes on 1 January 2026, so you must apply in advance through the official NADRA portal. The good news: Japan is on Pakistan's fee-waiver list, so the government visa fee is zero. As of mid-2026, Japanese citizens cannot enter Pakistan visa-free or on arrival. Pakistan introduced a free Visa-on-Arrival / Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA) facility for around 126 nationalities (Japan included) in August 2024, but it was suspended effective 1 January 2026 and has disappeared from the official portal. All foreign tourists, including Japanese nationals, must now obtain an electronic visa in advance through the Pakistan Online Visa System (POVS) at visa.nadra.gov.pk before travel. Japan is one of a small group of nationalities (alongside Afghanistan, China, Iceland, North Korea, Slovakia, Malaysia, UAE and Saudi Arabia) that are exempt from the government visa fee, so the tourist e-Visa itself is free of charge for Japanese passport holders, though the online application and supporting documents are still mandatory. The tourist e-Visa is typically issued for single entry with a 3-month validity, allowing a stay of up to roughly 30 days (the standard tourist e-Visa parameter), with official processing quoted at about 7-10 working days. Pakistan is not in the Schengen area, so the 90/180 short-stay rule and ETIAS do not apply here.
