France to Madagascar visa requirements

French ordinary passport holders need a visa for Madagascar. The easiest route for tourism is the tourist eVisa applied for online before departure (single entry, up to 60 days). A visa on arrival at international airports is also available for the same fee. There is no visa-free entry. Madagascar is not visa-free for France. Every French traveler needs a short-stay tourist visa, which can be obtained either online as an eVisa via the official portal (evisamada-mg.com / evisamada.gov.mg) or on arrival at international airports such as Antananarivo-Ivato and Nosy Be. The eVisa is a single-entry, tourism-only authorization with a maximum stay of 60 days, processed within 72 hours of validation. Fees are tiered by length of stay: roughly EUR 25 (USD 27) for 1-15 days, EUR 35 for 16-30 days, EUR 40 for 31-60 days, and EUR 50 for 61-90 days (the longer tier is handled at airport counters / consulates rather than the 60-day eVisa cap). Note that as of 2026 the 15-day fee was increased on the official portal; the French foreign ministry still references a lower EUR 10 administrative fee at the border, so confirm the exact amount when paying. The passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond the arrival date with at least 3 blank pages. Madagascar is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here. Applying for the eVisa in advance is recommended over relying on the on-arrival counter to avoid airport queues and any payment-method issues.
