Do France passport holders need a visa to visit Japan?

French ordinary passport holders enter Japan visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism, business meetings, and family visits. Under a special bilateral reciprocity arrangement, French citizens can also extend their stay by another 90 days at a Japanese immigration office, for a total of up to 6 months without a visa. Visit Japan Web is the recommended digital pre-registration for immigration and customs at HND, NRT, KIX, FUK, CTS, NGO, and OKA. Japan's planned JESTA electronic travel authorization is targeted for fiscal year 2028 and is not required in 2026.
