French ordinary passport holders need a visa for Djibouti. The recommended channel is the official Djibouti eVisa (evisa.gouv.dj), applied for online before travel. A short-stay tourist eVisa costs USD 23 for up to 90 days. France is not on Djibouti's visa-exemption list, so a French ordinary passport holder requires a visa for tourism or a short visit. Djibouti launched its electronic visa (eVisa) system on 18 February 2018, which largely replaced the old visa-on-arrival process. The eVisa is the official and recommended route: travelers apply online at evisa.gouv.dj, upload a passport bio-page, a photo, proof of accommodation and a return/onward ticket, and pay the fee online. Two tourist eVisa options exist: a short-stay (15-90 day) visa at USD 23 and a shorter 14-day variant at USD 12, plus a 72-hour transit eVisa. The eVisa is single-entry and valid for entry within 90 days of the chosen arrival date; processing typically takes about 5 business days. The passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond the intended stay and have a blank page. A visa on arrival reportedly remains available at Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport for some travelers, but the Djiboutian government and several authorities recommend the eVisa, and the U.S. State Department notes that on-arrival/embassy routes can be more reliable than the eVisa portal at times of technical issues. Because France has no confirmed visa-free or formal visa-waiver agreement with Djibouti, travelers should obtain a visa (eVisa preferred) before departure. Travelers arriving from yellow-fever-endemic countries also need proof of yellow fever vaccination.
