Do France passport holders need a visa to visit AO?

French ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist trips to Angola. Since Presidential Decree 189/23 (effective 28 September 2023), France and all EU nationals may enter visa-free for up to 30 days per entry, capped at 90 days total per calendar year, for tourism only. Angola unilaterally abolished tourist visa requirements for nationals of 98 countries through Presidential Decree 189/23, which took effect on 28 September 2023. France, as a European Union member state, is included in this exemption. A French citizen holding an ordinary passport can therefore travel to Angola for tourism without any visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival, staying up to 30 days per entry and a cumulative maximum of 90 days within a calendar year. The exemption covers tourism purposes only. At the border, travelers must present a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay with at least two blank pages, and immigration officers may ask for proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds. Those intending to work, study, conduct extended business, or stay longer than 30 days per entry must obtain the appropriate visa (an Angola eVisa is available online for many nationalities and through the Angolan consulate in France). Border officers retain final discretion on admission. This guidance reflects the policy as confirmed in 2024-2026; travelers should reconfirm with the Angolan consulate before departure as priority lists and conditions can change.
