Spain to Luxembourg visa requirements

No visa needed. Spanish citizens are EU nationals with full freedom of movement, so they can enter Luxembourg with just a valid Spanish ID card or passport and stay indefinitely. Spain and Luxembourg are both EU member states and part of the Schengen Area. As an EU citizen, a Spanish ordinary passport holder enjoys the right of free movement under EU law (Directive 2004/38/EC). No visa is required for tourism or short visits, and there is no time limit on a short stay. Travel requires only a valid Spanish national ID card (DNI) or passport. The Schengen 90/180-day short-stay rule applies only to non-EU visitors, not to EU citizens, so it does not restrict Spanish nationals. Likewise, the ETIAS travel authorisation (expected to launch for visa-exempt third-country nationals in late 2026) does NOT apply to EU citizens such as Spaniards. For stays beyond 3 months, EU citizens are not required to obtain a visa but must complete a simple registration (declaration of arrival within 8 days and a registration certificate within 3 months) at the local commune if establishing residence; this is a residence formality, not a travel visa, and does not affect tourists or short visitors.
