Spain to Kenya visa requirements

Spanish ordinary passport holders do NOT need a traditional visa for Kenya, but they MUST obtain an approved Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) online before departure. Kenya replaced visas with the mandatory eTA system on 1 January 2024, and Spain is not on the eTA-exempt list. As of mid-2026, Kenya operates an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) regime that replaced its previous visa and visa-on-arrival systems effective 1 January 2024. While Kenyan officials describe the country as "visa-free," in practice nearly all foreign nationals — including Spanish citizens — must apply for and receive an approved eTA before boarding a flight to Kenya. The standard tourist eTA costs USD 30 (plus a card-processing surcharge, bringing the typical total to about USD 32.50–39), is valid for travel within 90 days of issuance, permits a single entry, and allows a stay of up to 90 days (the exact duration is set by the immigration officer at the port of entry). Applications are filed at the official portal etakenya.go.ke and are normally processed within 3 working days, with paid urgent (24-hour) and super-urgent (5-hour) options. A July 2025 reform exempted citizens of most African countries (except Somalia and Libya) from the eTA, but this exemption does NOT extend to Spain or other European nationals, who remain required to hold an eTA. Travelers should also carry a passport valid for at least 6 months with blank pages, proof of onward/return travel, and accommodation details, and check yellow-fever vaccination rules if arriving via an endemic country. Apply only through the official government website to avoid third-party markup sites.
