Spain to Israel visa requirements

Spanish citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in Israel, but since 1 January 2025 they must obtain an approved ETA-IL (Electronic Travel Authorization) online before boarding their flight. It costs NIS 25, is valid for up to 2 years with multiple entries, and allows stays of up to 90 days. Spain holds a visa-exemption arrangement with Israel, so Spanish ordinary passport holders do not need a consular tourist visa for short visits. However, Israel's Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) launched the mandatory ETA-IL system, which became compulsory for all visa-exempt nationals (including EU/Spain) arriving by air from 1 January 2025. Every Spanish traveler must apply online and receive an approved ETA-IL before departure - carriers will deny boarding without it, and there is no airport/gate option. The ETA-IL costs NIS 25 (about EUR 7), permits multiple entries, allows stays of up to 90 days per visit, and remains valid for up to 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended departure date and contain at least one blank page. Israel is NOT in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to entry into Israel (ETIAS concerns travel into the EU/Schengen zone, which would affect Israeli citizens going the other way). Approval is usually fast - typically within hours and generally well under 72 hours - but travelers are advised to apply at least a few days ahead. This reflects rules current as of 30 May 2026.
