Spain to France visa requirements

No visa. As an EU citizen, a Spanish passport holder can travel to France with a valid Spanish passport or DNI, stay up to 3 months without formalities, and remain longer under EU free-movement residence rules. Spain and France are both EU member states and part of the Schengen Area. Under EU freedom of movement, Spanish nationals may enter France without a visa using either a valid Spanish passport or a valid national identity card (DNI); the document must be valid on the day of travel. Your Europe says EU citizens can travel freely in EU and Schengen countries with a passport or ID card, while French Service-Public guidance says European citizens may enter and stay in France for up to 3 months without particular formalities and need no residence permit or work authorisation to work. For stays beyond 3 months, the Schengen 90/180 visitor rule still does not apply to EU citizens, but residence is subject to EU free-movement conditions such as working, studying, having sufficient resources, or joining family; France does not require EU citizens to hold a residence permit, though they may request one. Internal Schengen border checks are normally absent, but France and Spain can conduct police or temporary border checks, and Spain's MAEC notes reinforced border controls do not change the accepted documents: DNI or passport. ETIAS does not apply to EU citizens, and the EU Entry/Exit System (fully operational from 10 April 2026) registers non-EU nationals only.
