Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit Türkiye?

No visa needed. Since 17 April 2026, Australian ordinary passport holders can enter Türkiye visa-free for tourism or transit, staying up to 90 days within any 180-day period. As of 17 April 2026, Türkiye unilaterally abolished the visa requirement for holders of ordinary Australian passports. A presidential decree published in Türkiye's Official Gazette removed the previous e-Visa obligation (which cost US$60) with immediate effect. Australians traveling for tourism or transit can now simply arrive and receive an entry stamp — no e-Visa, sticker visa, or visa-on-arrival is required. The exemption permits a stay of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. The exemption covers tourism and transit only; work, study, long-term residence, and journalism still require the appropriate visa or residence permit, and stays beyond 90 days require a residence permit. Note this exemption applies to ORDINARY passports — holders of official, diplomatic, service, and special passports must still apply through the pre-visa system at visa.gov.tr. The change is unilateral; Turkish citizens still require a visa to enter Australia.
