Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit SE?

No visa needed. Australian ordinary passport holders can visit Sweden visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period under the Schengen short-stay rules. Sweden is part of the Schengen Area, and Australia is on the EU's visa-exempt list for short stays. As an Australian ordinary passport holder, you can travel to Sweden for tourism, business or family visits without a visa for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This 90-day allowance is shared across the entire Schengen Area, not Sweden alone. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date from Schengen and have been issued within the last 10 years. As of 30 May 2026, no pre-travel authorisation is required. The EU's ETIAS travel authorisation is scheduled to begin in the last quarter of 2026, followed by a transition period; once mandatory (expected 2027), visa-exempt travellers including Australians will need an approved ETIAS (around EUR 20) linked to their passport before entry. Until then, entry remains visa-free with no online application.
