Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit NL?
No visa needed. Australian ordinary passport holders can visit the Netherlands visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen Area. Australia is a Schengen visa-exempt country, so an Australian ordinary passport holder can travel to the Netherlands for tourism without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This 90-day limit is cumulative across the entire Schengen Area (not the Netherlands alone). The passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen Area. No advance authorisation is required as of 30 May 2026. The EU's ETIAS travel authorisation is scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026; once it is in force, Australians will need an approved ETIAS (about EUR 20, valid 3 years) before travelling, but it is NOT yet required and applications are not yet open. Travellers should still carry proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, sufficient funds, and travel insurance, as border officers may ask. Working is not permitted on visa-free entry.
