Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit Mexico?
No visa needed. Australian ordinary passport holders can enter Mexico visa-free for tourism for up to 180 days. Australian ordinary passport holders do not need a visa to visit Mexico as tourists. Australia is on Mexico's visa-free (non-lucrative visitor) list, allowing stays of up to 180 days for tourism, business or transit. On arrival you complete the migration process: travelers with a chip ordinary passport can use e-gates at major airports (Cancun, Mexico City and others) and receive a printed QR code/stamp showing the authorized stay; others receive a stamp from an immigration officer. The traditional paper FMM (Forma Migratoria Multiple) tourist card has been phased out at most international airports — the airfare covers the migration fee for air arrivals — but a QR-coded entry permit may still be issued and should be kept. The authorized stay is set by the officer and is NOT guaranteed to be the full 180 days, so confirm the date stamped/printed before leaving the counter. There is no national tourist visa fee for short visits, but anyone visiting the state of Quintana Roo (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel) must pay the VISITAX tourist tax (about MXN 283 per person), ideally online before departure. Carry a passport valid for the duration of stay, a return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds.
