Australia to Ghana visa requirements

Australian passport holders need a visa for Ghana and must apply online for an e-Visa before travel. Ghana launched a new national e-Visa platform on 25 May 2026 and discontinued visa-on-arrival for ordinary travel. A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry. Australia is not on Ghana's visa-exemption list, so an ordinary Australian passport holder must obtain a Ghanaian visa before arriving. As of 25 May 2026, Ghana operates a centralised national e-Visa platform (evisa.immigration.gov.gh) run by the Ghana Immigration Service, which now handles tourist, business, student and transit applications. The previous visa-on-arrival arrangement has been discontinued for standard travel, so Australians should not plan to obtain a visa at the airport. The free-visa/ETA measure announced on 25 May 2026 applies only to holders of African passports for tourism and business; it does not benefit Australian citizens, who pay the standard non-African e-Visa fees. The single-entry tourist e-Visa starts at USD 260 with standard processing of roughly 96 hours (3-5 business days), with faster priority and express tiers available at higher cost. Applicants complete the online form, upload a passport bio-page, photo and supporting documents (return ticket and proof of funds/accommodation), pay online, and receive the approved e-Visa by email to present on arrival. A passport valid at least six months beyond the intended stay and a valid international yellow fever vaccination certificate are both required and checked rigorously at all ports of entry. The tourist visa is typically valid for use within three months of issue and permits a short stay; stays beyond 90 days within 12 months require registering for a non-citizen Ghana card.
