Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit Egypt?
Australian passport holders need a visa for Egypt. The easiest route is the online eVisa (single-entry, 30-day stay) via the official portal visa2egypt.gov.eg. Visa on arrival at major airports is also available. Australia is not on Egypt's visa-free list, so an ordinary Australian passport holder needs a tourist visa for a short visit. There are three pathways: (1) the recommended electronic visa (eVisa) applied for in advance through Egypt's official portal visa2egypt.gov.eg; (2) a visa on arrival (VOA) purchased in USD cash at the bank counter in the arrivals hall of major international airports such as Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh and Luxor; and (3) a sticker visa from an Egyptian consulate (e.g. Sydney). The single-entry tourist visa allows a maximum stay of 30 days and the visa itself is valid for entry within 3 months of issue. As of a fee revision that took effect from 1 March 2026 (reflected on the official eVisa portal from late April 2026), the single-entry fee rose from USD 25 to USD 30, and the multiple-entry eVisa from USD 60 to USD 65. Your passport must have at least 6 months validity from your intended date of entry. Applying for the eVisa online before departure is the most convenient option as it avoids airport queues and the requirement to carry exact USD cash.
