Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit BS?
Australian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit the Bahamas for tourism. They can enter visa-free and stay up to 8 months, provided they hold a passport valid for at least 6 months, a return/onward ticket, proof of funds, and a completed immigration arrival card. Australia is on the Bahamas' visa-exemption list. As confirmed by the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bahamas Immigration Department, Australian citizens entering as bona fide visitors (tourists) do not require a visa. Australia falls within the extended exemption category permitting a stay of up to eight (8) months without a visa. No application, eVisa, ETA or visa-on-arrival is required for tourism. On arrival travelers must present a passport valid at least six months, a return or onward ticket, evidence of sufficient funds, and a completed Bahamas Immigration Disembarkation/Embarkation Card. Admittance is at the discretion of the immigration officer. There is no entry fee for the visa-free entry itself; a departure tax (typically around US$29 from Nassau/Freeport, comprising departure, environmental and enhancement taxes) is normally bundled into the airfare. The Bahamas is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Travelers wishing to stay beyond the granted period can apply for an extension of stay, which carries a non-refundable processing fee (US$200 as of late 2024).
