Do Australia passport holders need a visa to visit BE?

No visa needed. Australian ordinary passport holders can visit Belgium visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. Australia is a visa-exempt country for the Schengen area, so an Australian ordinary passport holder may travel to Belgium for tourism or business without a Schengen visa, for stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. The Belgian government confirms no visa is required; you simply need a valid passport, proof of sufficient funds, and onward/return travel. Since 10 April 2026 the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is fully operational, so first-time travellers register fingerprints and a facial photo at the border instead of receiving a passport stamp. ETIAS — a separate €20 online travel authorisation — is not yet mandatory; it is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026, after which visa-exempt travellers including Australians will need it before boarding. For now (May 2026) no ETIAS is required. Stays longer than 90/180, or for work, study or family reasons, require a national long-stay (type D) visa applied for in advance.
