South African ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Morocco for tourism. South Africa is not on Morocco's visa-exempt list, and it is not on the general eVisa nationality list either. Travelers without such a document cannot use the eVisa and must apply for a standard tourist visa through the Moroccan Embassy in Pretoria (or via the consular affidavit/courier process for applicants outside Gauteng). Because the no-visa/eVisa channel is conditional rather than universal, the conservative and correct default for a typical South African tourist is visa-required. The standard tourist visa is a short-stay visa permitting up to 90 days. Morocco is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply; Morocco operates its own national visa and eVisa systems. Document requirements include a passport valid beyond the stay, a recent colour photo (35x45mm), proof of accommodation and return travel, and (for non-citizen residents) a valid South African residence permit.
