South Africans should apply online before departure, upload a passport bio-page and photo, pay the eVisa fee, and receive an electronic approval by email. On arrival at a DRC airport, seaport or land border, a separate mandatory entry fee of USD 90 (the VAP/airport-port visa fee) is collected to validate the visa and issue the entry stamp. A short single-entry tourist eVisa typically permits a stay of around 7 days, while longer single- and multiple-entry options (1, 3 and 6 months) are available at higher fees. Processing through the official channel commonly takes up to about three weeks, so travelers should apply well ahead. DRC is in Central Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply.
