South Africa to Congo (Dem. Rep.) visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders need a visa for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The most practical option for a short tourist visit is the DRC eVisa (electronic "flying visa" / visa volant), applied for online before travel, plus a mandatory USD 90 entry fee paid at the border on arrival. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival access for South African citizens to the Democratic Republic of the Congo; prior authorization is mandatory. The DRC operates an official electronic visa system through the Direction Générale de Migration (DGM) at evisa.gouv.cd, which issues an electronic "flying visa" (visa volant). South Africans should apply online before departure, upload a passport bio-page and photo, pay the eVisa fee, and receive an electronic approval by email. On arrival at a DRC airport, seaport or land border, a separate mandatory entry fee of USD 90 (the VAP/airport-port visa fee) is collected to validate the visa and issue the entry stamp. A short single-entry tourist eVisa typically permits a stay of around 7 days, while longer single- and multiple-entry options (1, 3 and 6 months) are available at higher fees. Processing through the official channel commonly takes up to about three weeks, so travelers should apply well ahead. DRC is in Central Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply. Travelers should also be prepared for a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, which is required for entry.
