The process typically issues an electronic authorization/grant that is then stamped (the physical visa is collected at an Iranian consulate or, where permitted, at the airport). The tourist visa generally allows a 30-day stay, extendable up to a total of 90 days inside Iran, with the visa grant valid roughly 90 days from issuance for entry. Government visa stamp fees are modest (around 10 EUR for tourism), but applicants pay additional service/processing fees and mandatory travel medical insurance (around 14-30 EUR), all payable in EUR or USD cash on collection. A visa on arrival is sometimes available at major airports but is risky and not recommended. Iran is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Travelers should ensure their passport is valid for at least 6 months, has no evidence of travel to Israel, and should apply at least 10-14 days before departure.
