Yes. Thai ordinary passport holders must obtain a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before traveling to Hungary for tourism. Thailand is on the EU visa-required list (Annex I), so it is NOT visa-free and is NOT eligible for ETIAS. Hungary is part of the Schengen Area. Thailand is listed in Annex I of EU Regulation 2018/1806, meaning Thai citizens are required to hold a visa for short stays in the Schengen Area. A Thai ordinary passport holder therefore needs a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa obtained before departure to visit Hungary for tourism. The visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area (the 90/180 rule). Hungary must be the main destination of the trip (or the first point of entry if no single main destination), and applications are submitted through VFS Global Bangkok on behalf of the Embassy of Hungary. The standard adult fee is EUR 90 plus a VFS service charge. ETIAS does NOT apply to Thai nationals because ETIAS is only for visa-exempt nationalities; Thai travelers continue to use the traditional Schengen visa process.
