A key upcoming change: the EU's ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will become mandatory for visa-exempt travelers, including Malaysians, after its planned launch (expected late 2026, with a transitional grace period). ETIAS is NOT a visa; it is an online pre-travel authorization costing EUR 7 (free for under-18s and over-70s), valid up to three years. As of the verification date (June 2026), ETIAS is not yet in force, so no authorization is required to travel today, but travelers should check its status before departure. The EES (Entry/Exit System) biometric border registration has begun rollout and may apply at entry. Note: Latvia has no embassy in Malaysia; for any visa needs (e.g., longer stays), Malaysians are served via designated Schengen partner missions.
