Israeli passport holders cannot enter Indonesia visa-free and are NOT eligible for visa-on-arrival or e-VOA. As of mid-2026, Indonesia does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel, and ordinary Israeli passport holders are placed in the "calling visa" category, a screening regime applied to nationals of countries Indonesia regards as posing political, security or immigration sensitivities. There is NO visa-free entry, NO standard tourist visa-on-arrival (VOA), and NO e-VOA available to Israeli citizens. To visit, an Israeli traveler (or a local sponsor in Indonesia) must first request a recommendation/approval from the Directorate General of Immigration (Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi) in Jakarta. Only after that approval is granted can the visa be issued, typically via an Indonesian embassy or consulate, and the process generally requires a local sponsor, an invitation/reference letter, and often a defined itinerary. Entry is restricted to designated international gateways (commonly cited as Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), Jakarta Halim (HLP), Denpasar-Bali (DPS) and Surabaya (SUB)). Approvals are limited and discretionary; reporting in early 2026 indicated only around 51 calling visas were approved for Israeli nationals in 2025, underscoring how restrictive and uncertain the channel is. The practical alternative many Israelis use is a second (non-Israeli) nationality passport, which would then follow that country's normal Indonesian visa rules (including VOA/e-VOA where eligible). On an Israeli passport alone, travelers should treat Indonesia as visa-required with a high risk of refusal and plan many weeks in advance through a sponsor or specialized agency. Because the calling-visa process is opaque and outcomes are not guaranteed, conservative planning is essential. Tourism without a confirmed approval is not possible. Note: Indonesia is in Southeast Asia and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
