Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Madagascar, but it is easy to obtain. The recommended route is the official Madagascar eVisa (single-entry tourist visa, up to 60 days), which can also be obtained as a visa on arrival at the airport for the same price. Madagascar is not visa-free for Indonesian citizens. However, all nationalities, including Indonesians, can obtain a tourist visa either online via the official eVisa portal (evisamada-mg.com) or on arrival at international airports such as Ivato (Antananarivo). The eVisa system currently supports only the single-entry tourist visa for stays up to 60 days. Fees are tiered by length of stay and are identical whether paid online in advance or on arrival. As of 16 February 2026, the short-stay (15-day) e-Visa fee was tripled to roughly EUR 30 / USD 35, while longer-stay tiers remained broadly unchanged (around EUR 35 for up to 30 days, EUR 40 for up to 60 days, EUR 50 for up to 90 days). Applying online in advance is recommended because the eVisa is issued within 72 hours and speeds airport processing, avoiding long queues at the visa-on-arrival counter. Passports should be valid for at least six months. Madagascar is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen and ETIAS rules do not apply.
