Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit NO?

British (UK) ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Norway. As part of the Schengen area, Norway allows visa-free stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. As of 31 May 2026, no ETIAS authorisation is yet required, though the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric registration is now active at the border. Norway is a member of the Schengen area, and British citizens enjoy visa-free short-stay access for tourism, business and family visits for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. This 90-day allowance is shared across all Schengen states, so time spent in any other Schengen country counts toward the same limit. There is no application or fee for the visa-free entry itself. Travellers must hold a passport issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen area. At the border, officers may ask for proof of accommodation, a return or onward ticket, travel insurance and evidence of sufficient funds. The EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) is now operational, so on arrival UK travellers may have fingerprints and a facial photo captured to register their entry. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) — a EUR 20 pre-travel authorisation valid for three years — is expected to become mandatory for visa-exempt travellers, including UK citizens, from the last quarter of 2026; it is NOT yet required as of 31 May 2026. Overstaying the 90-day limit can result in fines and a Schengen entry ban of up to three years.
