Egyptian ordinary passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before traveling to Sri Lanka for tourism. Egypt is NOT among the 40 nationalities granted a free ETA from May 25, 2026, so Egyptians pay the standard US$50 "other countries" tourist ETA fee for a 30-day, double-entry stay. As of 2026-06-02, a Egypt (EG) ordinary passport holder cannot enter Sri Lanka visa-free. Sri Lanka requires all tourists to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) via the official portal (eta.gov.lk) before travel. In 2026 Sri Lanka introduced a free-ETA scheme for 40 nationalities (effective 25 May 2026), but Egypt is NOT on that list. Egyptian travelers therefore fall under the "All Other Countries" category and pay the standard tourist ETA fee of US$50, which grants a 30-day stay with double entry. The ETA can also be issued on arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in limited cases, but online pre-approval before departure is strongly recommended and cheaper to administer. A passport valid at least six months beyond arrival, proof of sufficient funds, and a confirmed onward/return ticket are required. The verdict is "eta".
