Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit BF?
United Arab Emirates ordinary passport holders can enter Burkina Faso visa-free for short tourist visits. The UAE is the only Middle Eastern country granted this exemption. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory, and a passport valid 6+ months is required. As of 31 May 2026, holders of an ordinary United Arab Emirates passport do not need a visa to enter Burkina Faso for tourism or short visits. This exemption is documented by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and corroborated by the Passport Index and Henley Passport Index; the UAE is notably the only Middle Eastern state on Burkina Faso's visa-exempt list, which is otherwise made up of ECOWAS/West African neighbours plus Singapore. Travellers should be aware of two important caveats. First, the exemption is not consistently reflected in the Timatic/IATA airline database, so some check-in agents may be unfamiliar with it; carrying printed proof of the exemption (e.g., the UAE MOFA exemption reference or a Passport Index screenshot) is advisable to avoid boarding disputes. Second, a yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travellers over 9 months of age, as Burkina Faso is endemic. Burkina Faso also operates an official e-Visa system (visaburkina.bf, launched August 2023) which exempt nationals may optionally use for extra documentary certainty, though it is not required. Burkina Faso is in West Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply. Note that the security situation in Burkina Faso is volatile and most governments advise against non-essential travel; entry rules can change at short notice given the country's 2024 withdrawal process from ECOWAS.
