Yes - South African ordinary passport holders need a visa to visit North Macedonia. You must apply in advance for a short-stay/transit "C" visa, as there is no visa-on-arrival or eVisa for South Africans. South Africa is not on North Macedonia's visa-exempt list, so an ordinary South African passport holder must obtain a short-stay and transit ("C") visa before travelling for tourism. The C visa permits stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period and the consular fee is EUR 60 (EUR 35 for children aged 6-12). North Macedonia is NOT a Schengen member state (it is an EU candidate outside Schengen), so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to entering North Macedonia itself.
