South Africa to Guinea-Bissau visa requirements

South African ordinary passport holders need a visa for Guinea-Bissau. The most practical route for a short tourist stay is a visa on arrival at Bissau (Osvaldo Vieira International Airport), paid in cash. A linked online biometric pre-enrollment (RGB Visa eVisa) is also available and recommended to speed up the airport process. Guinea-Bissau is a West African country and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so no Schengen 90/180 rule or ETIAS applies. South Africa is not among the 14 visa-exempt nationalities (mostly ECOWAS members), so a visa is required. Guinea-Bissau grants visa on arrival to nationals of all non-exempt countries at Bissau international airport; this is the standard route used by South African travelers. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory, the passport must be valid at least 6 months, and immigration officers expect proof of accommodation and onward/return travel. Travelers can alternatively apply in advance at a Guinea-Bissau diplomatic mission (nearest are in Luanda and Abuja, as there is no mission in South Africa). Because there is no embassy in South Africa, the visa on arrival / online pre-enrollment route is the realistic choice for most South African tourists.
