Vietnam to El Salvador visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a visa for El Salvador. Since October 2025 they apply online through El Salvador's official PEI (Permiso Especial de Ingreso) electronic permit system instead of queuing at a consulate. The migration service fee is USD 100, and the application must be approved by El Salvador's immigration authority before travel. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel for Vietnamese ordinary passports. Vietnam (VN) ordinary passport holders are not eligible for El Salvador's visa-free entry or the simplified tourist-card procedure. El Salvador classifies Vietnam among the nationalities whose entry application must be approved inside El Salvador by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME). Since October 2025, DGME operates the PEI (Permiso Especial de Ingreso) online portal at elsalvadorpei.migracion.gob.sv, allowing visa-required travelers who cannot obtain a consular visa to apply electronically and pay a USD 100 migration service fee. The permit is reviewed and either approved, returned for correction, denied, or cancelled, with the result sent by email. Approved travelers typically receive a short-stay authorization (commonly up to 90 days). Where a consular visa route applies, the nearest Salvadoran consular representation handles it, since El Salvador and Vietnam have limited diplomatic presence in each other's territory. Travelers should apply well in advance (4-6 weeks recommended) because approval is discretionary and processing can take from a few business days to a couple of weeks. El Salvador is in Central America, not the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. The standard tourist card (USD 12 on arrival) and CA-4 free-movement agreement apply only to visa-exempt nationalities, not to Vietnamese ordinary passport holders, who must hold an approved entry permit/visa before boarding. Be conservative: confirm current requirements with the DGME PEI portal or the nearest Salvadoran consulate before booking.
