Vietnam to New Caledonia visa requirements

Yes. Holders of an ordinary Vietnamese passport need a visa to visit New Caledonia. New Caledonia is a French overseas territory and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so a Schengen visa does not work here. Vietnamese nationals must apply in advance for a French short-stay visa valid for Overseas France (visa de court sejour) at the Embassy of France in Hanoi or the Consulate-General of France in Ho Chi Minh City before traveling. New Caledonia (Nouvelle-Caledonie) is a French sui generis overseas collectivity in the South Pacific. Although it is part of the French Republic, it lies OUTSIDE the European Schengen area and runs its own entry regime for Overseas France. The familiar Schengen 90/180 rule and a standard Schengen visa do NOT apply to or admit a traveller to New Caledonia. Many nationalities (EU/EEA, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and others) enjoy visa-free short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, but Vietnam is NOT on the exemption list. An ordinary Vietnamese passport holder must therefore obtain a French short-stay visa endorsed for Overseas France before departure. The application is lodged through the French diplomatic mission in Vietnam (Embassy of France in Hanoi or Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City), routed via France-Visas, with documents typically collected by the visa service provider (TLScontact). The short-stay (court sejour) category permits tourism, family visits and short business trips for up to 90 days. The standard short-stay visa fee is EUR 99 for French overseas territory visas (broadly equivalent to the Schengen short-stay fee), plus service-provider charges. Passport must be issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months beyond intended departure, with at least two blank pages; mandatory travel insurance, proof of onward/return travel, accommodation and sufficient funds are required. There is no eVisa, visa-on-arrival or ETA channel for Vietnamese tourists to New Caledonia as of 2026-06.
