Yes. Holders of an ordinary Vietnamese passport need a visa to visit New Caledonia. New Caledonia is a French overseas territory and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so a Schengen visa does not work here. Vietnamese nationals must apply in advance for a French short-stay visa valid for Overseas France (visa de court sejour) at the Embassy of France in Hanoi or the Consulate-General of France in Ho Chi Minh City before traveling. New Caledonia (Nouvelle-Caledonie) is a French sui generis overseas collectivity in the South Pacific. The standard short-stay visa fee is EUR 99 for French overseas territory visas (broadly equivalent to the Schengen short-stay fee), plus service-provider charges. Passport must be issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months beyond intended departure, with at least two blank pages; mandatory travel insurance, proof of onward/return travel, accommodation and sufficient funds are required. There is no eVisa, visa-on-arrival or ETA channel for Vietnamese tourists to New Caledonia as of 2026-06.
