Vietnam to Mauritania visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need an e-Visa to enter Mauritania for tourism. Since 5 January 2025, the old visa-on-arrival has been replaced: you must apply online via the official ANRPTS portal and receive approval before boarding, then pay the fee in cash (EUR or USD) on arrival. Vietnam is not on Mauritania's short visa-exempt list (only about ten countries, mostly neighbouring African and Arab states, are exempt). As of 5 January 2025, Mauritania launched a mandatory electronic visa (e-Visa) system run by the National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles (ANRPTS). All visa-required nationals, including Vietnamese citizens, must complete the online application and obtain approval before boarding their flight; the traditional pure visa-on-arrival channel is no longer available. The application captures passport details, purpose of visit and desired duration (30, 60 or 90 days) and entries (single, double or multiple). Approval is typically issued within a few business days; applicants print the e-Visa with QR code. The visa fee (about EUR 55 / USD 60 for a standard 30-day single entry) is paid in exact cash in euros or US dollars on arrival, where biometrics are also collected. Passports must be valid at least six months. Mauritania is in West Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Because the fee is paid on arrival but online pre-approval is mandatory, this is best classified as an e-Visa route. Travelers should confirm details on the official ANRPTS portal close to departure, as the system is relatively new and procedures continue to evolve.
