Vietnam to Iraq visa requirements

Vietnamese ordinary passport holders need a visa obtained in advance from an Iraqi embassy or consulate to visit Iraq for tourism. Vietnam is not on Iraq's eVisa-eligible list and is not eligible for visa on arrival, so the online eVisa channel for Federal Iraq is not available to Vietnamese citizens. As of 2026, a Vietnam (VN) ordinary passport holder traveling to Iraq (IQ) for tourism must obtain a visa before travel. Iraq launched its electronic visa (eVisa) system but restricts eligibility to a defined list of roughly 37 nationalities (mainly EU member states, the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea). Vietnam is NOT on this eVisa-eligible list. Iraq also suspended its visa-on-arrival facility for those same nationalities from 1 March 2025; VOA is not an option for Vietnamese citizens either. Consequently, Vietnamese travelers fall into the general "visa required in advance" category and must apply through an Iraqi embassy or consulate. Iraqi tourist visas for non-eVisa nationalities frequently require an in-country sponsor and prior approval from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, after which the consulate issues the visa. Iraq is NOT in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. The autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq operates a separate entry system (a guarantor-based eVisa / on-arrival permit at Erbil and Sulaymaniyah), but a Kurdistan-issued permit does not authorize travel into Federal Iraq. Because Vietnam is not on any visa-free or eVisa channel for Federal Iraq, the conservative and correct verdict is visa-required.
