Vietnam to Ecuador visa requirements
Yes, a visa is required. Vietnamese ordinary passport holders are NOT eligible for Ecuador's 90-day visa-free entry. Since 5 July 2024, Vietnam is one of ~45 nationalities that must obtain a visa before travel. Tourists apply online for the Temporary Visitor (Tourist) Visa via Ecuador's eVISAS portal; there is no visa on arrival. Ecuador grants visa-free entry of up to 90 days to citizens of most countries, but Vietnam is specifically excluded. Following a policy change effective 5 July 2024, Vietnamese nationals are on the restricted list of approximately 45 nationalities who must hold a visa to enter Ecuador. For tourism, Vietnamese travelers apply for the "Visa de Visitante Temporal Turista 90 días" (Temporary Visitor Tourist Visa, 90 days) entirely online through Ecuador's official eVISAS platform (serviciosdigitales.cancilleria.gob.ec) operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility (Cancillería). There is no Ecuadorian embassy issuing this in Vietnam, so the fully digital eVISAS process is the practical channel. Government charges total USD 80 (USD 50 non-refundable application fee plus USD 30 issuance fee). The visa permits a 90-day stay from entry, extendable once for a further 90 days. Required documents include an apostilled criminal record certificate, proof of funds, and round-trip itinerary. Ecuador is in South America (not Schengen), so ETIAS and the Schengen 90/180 rule do not apply. Since 8 June 2025 Ecuador also requires transit visas for nationals of visa-required countries, so Vietnamese travelers connecting through Ecuador should plan accordingly. As policies change, confirm with the Cancillería before booking.
