🇺🇸UNITED STATES🇫🇮FINLANDUS-FI Do United States passport holders need a visa to visit Finland?
No visa needed. US ordinary passport holders can enter Finland visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period as part of the Schengen Area. As of 30 May 2026, US ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for short tourist visits to Finland. Finland is in the Schengen Area, where Americans enjoy visa-free entry for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. You must hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the last 10 years. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) — biometric registration of entries and exits at the border — began a progressive rollout on 12 October 2025 and becomes fully operational on 10 April 2026; it requires no advance application but does mean fingerprint and facial-image capture at first entry. The separate ETIAS travel authorization is NOT yet required: it is expected to launch around Q4 2026 with a transitional period, so it does not affect trips taken now. When ETIAS does go live, US travelers will need to obtain it online (EUR 20, valid 3 years) before departure. Always confirm current rules before travel, as the EES/ETIAS timeline continues to evolve.
