Do United States passport holders need a visa to visit Canada?

No visa, no eTA. Show a US passport and you can stay up to 6 months. U.S. ordinary passport holders do not need a visa or eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter Canada by air, land, or sea. Travelers are typically granted a stay of up to 6 months at the discretion of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer. For air travel, a valid U.S. passport is required. For land and sea crossings, a US passport card, NEXUS card, or enhanced driver's license also works. US lawful permanent residents (green card holders) are also eTA-exempt since 26 April 2022 — they travel with a passport plus their green card.
